Question and Answer Database FAQ373C.txt Checksum error on installation Category :Install Issues Platform :Win95/NT Product : BC++5.x Question: I got Borland C++ 5.01 and recieve a checksum error on a help file it is trying to install. It won't let me go on with the install untill it is fixed. Help Please! Answer: A checksum error means that when Windows 95 is attempting to ensure that files are not corrupted, it encounters a problem. Things to try: 1) Hard drive install (read install.txt section on this). 2) Hard drive install with Clean Boot/Safe Mode (read install.txt section on this as well) 3) Clean the CD with a tissue and make sure that no dust or residue resides on it. 4) If you have an external CD-ROM drive, occaisionally it is useful to turn it on it's side. Some drives will change their behaviour. If none of these work, you can call and get a replacement CD-ROM from the Disk Replacement Center: (800)932-9994. 7/2/98 10:32:32 AM
