Article #20559: General SQL Error when accessing a memo field in MS SQL 6.5.

Question: When connecting to MS SQL Server 6.5, and trying to access long text data (a memo field) with something such as "FieldByName('FieldName')", I get a "General SQL Error." Answer: This could be caused by not having the proper service packs installed on MS SQL Server. Installing Service Pack 4 has been known to fix this issue. A "General SQL Error" is returned when the database server returns some message that the BDE does not know how to handle.
